About Lumensorbit
Why we started writing about money honestly
Lumensorbit exists because the finance media Kenyan readers deserved didn't exist yet.
What Lumensorbit is and who it's for
Lumensorbit is an independent finance blog based in Eldoret, Kenya. We cover the Nairobi Securities Exchange, Central Bank of Kenya policy, personal finance planning, and the broader East African investment landscape. Our readers are everyday Kenyans — salaried employees, small business owners, university graduates making their first investment decisions — who are intelligent enough to handle real analysis but don't have a finance degree and shouldn't need one. We launched in 2021 with two articles and a mailing list of eleven people. By the end of our second year we had published over 80 pieces and grown to a readership in the low thousands, all without running a single paid advertising campaign. The growth came from one thing: readers sharing articles with friends because they found them genuinely useful, not because we gamed an algorithm. We serve readers across Kenya, with a particular focus on the Rift Valley region and Eldoret's growing professional and entrepreneurial community. We write in English because that is the language of Kenyan financial documents, NSE filings, and CBK communications — and we believe that finance literacy should be as accessible as those documents claim to be.
How we work — and where we draw the line
Every article at Lumensorbit begins with a question, not a conclusion. We pull primary data first — filings, regulatory documents, exchange data — and build our interpretation from there. We use clear visual design informed by our indigo-tech aesthetic to make data legible: clean tables, clearly labelled charts, no decorative complexity that obscures the numbers. Our team is small: two core writers with backgrounds in economics and accounting, and a part-time data analyst who runs verification passes on any piece that involves original number-crunching. We fact-check each other and we publish corrections prominently when we get something wrong. What we don't do: we don't predict share prices. We don't tell you to buy or sell specific securities. We don't run sponsored content or affiliate programmes. If you're looking for a tip sheet or a hot stock pick, Lumensorbit is the wrong place — and we'd rather you know that upfront than feel misled after reading us for a month. What we do offer is the kind of rigorous, conflict-free context that lets you make better decisions yourself. That distinction is the whole point.
A reader's perspective
I forwarded the infrastructure bond article to my entire savings group in Eldoret. Six of the eight members had never heard of DhowCSD. Two months later, three of them had made their first T-bill purchase. That's what good finance writing actually does.
